Usually I take photos in my home studio, but to take this one I took my equipment and went to my favorite make up artist’s studio. I really love working together with Olga Tomina. She’s the most talented master I’ve ever known. If we started working together, we’ll definitely create something incredible.Time
In most cases I work with studio lighting. It lets me not to depend on the time of the day and gives full control over the light.Lighting
I wanted this image to be mysterious and a bit dramatic, so I chose a black background and a beauty dish.Equipment
To take portraits I usually use a Canon 70D with a 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens. I love the colors and the sharpness which gives me this pair. For lighting this scene I’ve used one studio flash Jinbei MSN-600 with beauty dish with honeycomb on it.Inspiration
During this shoot we wanted to escape from the standard beauty photography and make something really interesting and unusual. The long neck and the flexibility of the model led us to the idea of a snake. This became the starting point of the image.Editing
Beauty portraits taken with the macro lens require very careful post-processing. I always shoot in RAW format, then develop it, clean up every skin problem, adjust the lighting with dodge and burn technique and do the final color correction. In my camera bag
My two favorite lenses are a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro and a Canon 85mm f/1.8. Other lenses I take depending on where I’m going and what I plan to shoot, but these two are always in my bag. As for the body, I prefer a Canon 70D. It’s much lighter than a Canon 5D mark III and has a swivel touch screen and wi-fi, which is very convenient.Feedback
Beauty photography is always the result of the work of all the team members - model, makeup artist and photographer. It is very important that each one of them did the job, invested in shooting all his skills and creativity. Usually I don’t have any plan for that kind of shooting. You just look at the model and feel the image.
