Behind The Lens

Location

In my backyard, Autumn leaves had been falling for a few days, I grabbed a macro lens and found a pile of colorful foliage on the ground and started looking for something interesting

Time

I woke around 6 in the morning and noticed the little ladies flying around the yard in masses.

Lighting

I was looking to grab the soft bokeh of the morning light, so I waited to get a side view of the little critter in just the right spot so the light was basking through the trees

Equipment

I Used a Canon EOS 7D, Mounted on a Tripod. The lens was a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM

Inspiration

I'm always critter hunting with a macro lens first thing when I wake up, as the morning dew tends to "weight down" smaller subjects making them slower and a bit more docile for macro work.

Editing

Some post work was done for colors to get them where I wanted and some tonal contrast was worked in on the background bokeh to make it more prominent using NIK Color Efex Pro

In my camera bag

My walk around gear consists of two Canon body's, a 7D for a crop sensor, and a full frame Canon 5D MK III. I take the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens no matter what, as it is my favorite, and is very versatile. A Plamp, and a Hoodman can always be found in my bag as well.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to pick up ladybugs and place them where you want them for a shot. especially when there is moisture out (morning dew, after a rain, etc) they tend to be very amicable to posing for a shot when their wings are wet.
