Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken among the columns of dramatic theater in Chernihiv, Ukraine.

Time

It was photographed on Sept. 26, 2015 at 4:47 pm in the light of the setting sun.

Lighting

Light came from the setting sun and dissipated among the columns of the building. This created a pleasant tone.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D300, with an 70-200mm f/2,8 lens. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

The girl, her lightweight dress, a little bit of wind and the reflected light of the setting sun have inspired me to take this photo.

Editing

In this particular case, i have softened the tone and the contrast of the whole frame, strengthened tonal contrast of the dress and applied light retouch to the model.

In my camera bag

I have normally in my bag a Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-200mm f/2,8 (my favourite lens), Nikkor 50mm f/1,8, Nikkor 16-85mm f/3,5-5,6, Tamron 90mm f/2,8 and a flash Nikon SB900.

Feedback

To take a portrait photo in the street you should use existing environmental conditions in your favor: weather conditions, the reflected light from the architectural structures, elements of urban architecture. In this case, the model was standing behind a column and was hiding from gusts of wind. The light of the setting sun reflected by a building was also used.
