This shot was setup in about 2 minutes. The lighting was perfect outside and I saw a chance. I grabbed a black sheet, my cousin and went to work. This is 100% natural light with basic retouching in post.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken in my front yard, just outside of Atlanta, Ga. I am a self taught, natural light photographer that has been practicing a little over 4 years now.
Time
This was taken around 2:00pm
Lighting
This is completely natural light, under a blanket of clouds and trees. I couldn't have asked for more perfect lighting on this particular day
Equipment
I used my nikon d5100, as well as my brand new (at the time) 35mm lens. It was the very first picture I took with my 35, and needless to say I fell in love.
Inspiration
I have always had a thing for a fiery red head and a face full of freckles. Any time I get that combination in front of me, inspiration just flows through me. I actually pulled him out in the middle of the day, threw a black sheet over some logs and got to work. It was refreshing, and effortless.
Editing
I did very minimal post processing with this one. Some sharpening, a few blemish removal spots and very minimal tone or exposure adjustments.
In my camera bag
I have my handy, Nikon D7100, as well as my sigma 18-250mm macro lens, and of course my 35mm. It pretty much never leaves my camera. Other than that, I do have a flash, which I rarely use and I always keep a prism in my bag for some effects! It can really add to a photo!
Feedback
I thoroughly believe that anyone could take a picture like this. I've seen quite a few that take my breath away. My biggest tip is practice! My model definitely made my job easier (I mean look at him) but honestly on cases like this, communication and knowledge of your equipment are all it really takes!
