Location
I was driving down Highway 45 in Mississippi near West Point, Mississippi.Time
This was one of those moments where I don't know the exact time but it was close to 9 in the evening.Lighting
Lighting makes this image interesting. It was pitch black on the field under one of the clearest skies with stars out everywhere. The farmers were harvesting the cotton field late in the evening under lights which were incredible. The lighting made me do a U turn two miles down the road and drive back to get my camera gear out to capture the beautiful scene.Equipment
Canon 5d Mark III with Canon 135 mm f/2.0 L handheld without flashInspiration
As a city boy all my life, I was instantly attracted to this scene in the field As I drove by the huge field of cotton. It was late and there was quite a large area of field left. I watched them harvest for quite some time waiting for them to get within lens shot to make the composition I was aiming towards.Editing
I had a minor white balance adjustment and some minor tone adjustmentsIn my camera bag
I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark III with Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L, Canon 135 mm f/2.0, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, Canon 24-105mm f/4.0, Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8, Sigma 1.4 TC and Sigma 2.0 TCFeedback
You will need a lens with an f stop to get lots of light in quickly. I always encourage people to look around to things that strike you as different and unique. This was one of those moments because I knew when I saw it that the scene was special and worthy to be captured!
