Hello, Hedwig! :-) This is such an amazing picture. I love owls, and I was drawn to this picture. Congrats on your win!

Behind The Lens

This photo was taken at an Owl Rescue survives on donations and offers the opportunity to handle one of these beautiful Rapters
It was late afternoon, I remember because my partner and I love to go to see places when it is quiet..children are in school and we get to enjoy the best of the visit when its peaceful and in the best light.
Taken in the afternoon, on a perfect cloudy day really gives you the best of the detail and helps to create a moody atmosphere to your pictures
This was simply a Nikon D3200 with a starter lens 18-55mm my beginning...a present and the start of a great journey!
I had just been on an Illuminate basics DSLR course at the local wildlife reserve.. Wolseley in Staffordshire...I was trying to get to grips with the basic settings. I love the story of an image so am continuously always looking for more than a picture. I like to pull the observer into another way of looking at everything.
I used Silver effects to take down the brightness around the image to remove everything. The position of the Owl was so perfect for me that I didn't want any distraction from it. I then drew back some colour gently..just enough to soften to feathers and bring out the glove.
In my camera bag
I hate to carry too much of anything when I am out and about...I take my Nikon D3200 everywhere with me and usually have the 55mm - 300mm lens.....Because my camera bag has now replaced a handbag the only little extra I carry with me is my Lens Pen and always a spare fully charged battery!
Always be prepared when going anywhere...Aim for the pictures you want but be ready for the little surprises along the way...overcast is the best light to capture detail...never be frightened to experiment...and don't be afraid to play with processing either..sometimes the best ideas only come when you get home and look back at your pictures afterwards!
