Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken at a Latino neighborhood event. My ex was speaking at the event, so whilst she was going over her notes, i began to wander, with my point and shoot in tow. The sun was harsh, lunchtime i believe. I caught my shadow out of the corner of my eye. It struck me. I had been reading Ralph Ellison's, Invisible Man, at the time, so the idea of being invisible to others at times was in my subconscious mind.... I had a dickens of a time getting even the shadows to not be blown out. Finally i got the shot. Later in post, i began to see the textures within the confines of my shadowy body. The grass twigs almost take on a vein-like presence. If i were a singer, this would be my debut album cover, indeed . . .

Time

The shot was taken sometime in the one o'clock hour i do believe...

Lighting

The light was horrible. Hard, blown-out. I had to stop down, digitally. If i went too far my shadow was lost.

Equipment

The equipment was a low-end point and shoot, i have several so i am not sure of which one i used that particular day. Handheld is how i snapped it.

Inspiration

Ralph Ellison's, The Invisible Man.

Editing

I tweaked the contrast, and saturated the leaves.

In my camera bag

My Olympus Pen, a Samsung point and shoot.

Feedback

Keep your eye OPEN at all times. Use your phone if you have to get the image. Keep a point and shoot in the glove box, your purse.
