This photograph has a funny story behind it ... This place is a 5 hour drive from my house .. but tht day due to traffic congestion, it took me 7 hours to reach ... By the time I reached ... the milkyway arch had gone high up the sky .. The tripod was on the lowest point and the camera was barely 6 inches above the ground and me.. almost lying on the ground to capture this pano. This Pano is a result of 28 vertical shots.
I love this shot because .. I could capture the milkyway in almost semi-circle arch.

Milkyway photography requires a pitch dark nights. Finding such a place may itself be a challenge. I drove 6 hours to each this spot.Equipment
Canon 7d Mkii, Rokinon 14mm Prime lens & Dolica TripodInspiration
I love Milkyway photographs and hence was looking for opportunities to capture a Milkyway arch photograph.Editing
Yes ! All milkyway photographs needs some post processing to make it more evident. This panorama was created with 14 vertical photographs. I used LR6 to merge the photographs into a panorama shot. Next I increased the exposure and contrast and reduced the highlights and then played with sliders under Tone Curve. In my camera bag
Other then my camera, I carry all lenses, 2 spare batteries, 2 spare memory cards, intervalvometer, ND filters and polarisers. I also carry a head lamp when I go for night photography.Feedback
Finding clear and dark sky is the most challenging part, so plan accordingly. Next is the risk of snakes and scorpions, especially in California, Nevada and Arizona. Carry a headlamp with a red light option so as to allow eyes to settle in. Due to this inherent risk, take a friend or a buddy with you , or let near & dear ones know your where abouts. Have a good stable tripod which can rotate the head easily. compose the photograph and take the pictures fast. The milkyway arch slowly moves. Delay in two photographs may result into alignment issues when stitching the photos into panorama.
