Catching a glimpse of the Aurora Borealis is an indescribable experience in itself. This night was mind-blowing! To be honest, I didn't even know what I was looking at except a huge fuchsia rainbow in the sky. I had no idea what a proton arc was, had never heard of one much less imagined I'd have the opportunity to photography the event. The scale of this arc is something I'm not sure I can explain, other than to say it made the Chugach Mountains in Alaska look small.
