Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit. A chance discovery while on a urban photo shoot, we saw a vintage Model T sitting out in front of the plant. Further inquiry led us to tour what is known as the first auto factory build in the world. The Model T seen here was produce from this factory. I saw it on the third floor and it immediately caught my eye as soon as I saw it in the other room.

Time

It was about 10:30 in the mourning. The reason why we pick that time is there is no air condition in the building. To hot later in the day.

Lighting

Natural lighting was coming from the left windows, but the sun was higher up and did not overexpose the subject.

Equipment

I used the Canon 60D with a 18-55 3.5 lens set at 18 mm set on a tripod. I shot 9 exposure using 6 layer together.

Inspiration

The first factory ever build, a vintage car produce from that same plant, own by one of the curators of the place. I couldn't pass it up. And if your from Detroit, cars are in your blood.

Editing

Yes I first used Photomatix Pro to layer the photo, then I created a B&W image for the background and using the color photo of the car for the foreground, using photoshop.

In my camera bag

I have a 60D with a 18-55 mm, a 70-200 mm 2.8 zoom with a 1.5 converter, and 50 mm 1.4 lens. I also carry a ND and Polarizing filter and a Sigma flasher. I also carry a tripod.

Feedback

I would say that photography is a art form, and the greater amount of techniques you can learn the greater the execution or performance of an artistic work your trying to create. Remember your equipment and skill is nothing more than a means to an end. And that means, your artistic work! Carry on.
