Location
Its one of the most famous underground tube stations in The World. The iconic Baker Street station in London. A very old station that used to have coal ruled steam trains running through it. The now filled in white vents seen in the photo were for the steam to escape the station area. These beautiful long platforms haven't changed much in the 100s of years they have been here.Time
During rush hour, like every London Underground station the platforms are really busy. To get the station empty is impossible but if you time it right in-between trains out of peak travelling times you can get a shot with only a few people present.Lighting
Being a underground station the light is very poor down there. The dim lighting ads to the charm of the station, really makes you feel like you have stepped back in time. Due to the poor lighting a high ISO is needed, especially when people are in the photograph.Equipment
As a high ISO was needed for this photo i opted to use the impressive Nikon Df for the fantastic images it produces at a high ISO. A 35mm lens being a good focal length, one i use often. The Sigma ART 35mm is a extremely sharp lens that i can always rely on.Inspiration
Its a beautiful station that i often go out of my way to travel through to try and capture the right shot. I was lucky on this day as there was a very trendy young lady standing waiting for the train. It created something that id wanted to try and achieve for a while. The station is such a nice station that it looks good photographed with anyone there or empty if your lucky enough, but with the right person it really makes the photo.Editing
The image was shot in RAW, i then converted it to black and white as i d with most my images. As the Nikon Df handles noise so well very little was needed to clean up the image. A little clarity added in places to bring out the fabulous detail in the brick work and some sharpening to enhance the figures. In my camera bag
My bag is currently packed light due to a long day out in the city yesterday. It has a Nikon D600 with a Zeiss 25mm lens attached. The impressive 85mm Nikon lens for a little extra length if needed. A Formatt Hitech 16 stop ND filter, spare battery, remote and the beautifully small Manfrotto Befee tripod. Its a lightish setup that lets me still take a huge array of photographs, from long exposure photos along the River Thames to Street photos in the vibrant Camden Market. Watch this space for the photos i took with this set up.Feedback
Its really all about waiting for the right people to enter the frame for the photo your looking for. Watch the train times on the train information board. You need to make sure there are none coming to spoil the shot. Its always best if one has just gone through leaving the platform a little emptier.
