This photo was taken on Fall River Road, in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park -- a beautiful place year round, but especially for fall colors. Being there wasn't planned. It was just a great day for an adventure. The further I drove up the mountain, the more colorful everything was, so I kept going until I found this spot.Time
I got into the park a little after noon. The entire place was glowing with color.Lighting
The natural sunlight through the trees was mesmerizing. The sun kept slipping behind the clouds and coming back out again, so I wasn't sure that I'd be able to capture the glow. I don't think the shot shows just how much those leaves were glowing, but I am still happy with how it came out.Equipment
This was a handheld shot taken with my Canon 70d, and an 18-200mm f3.5 lens.Inspiration
The scenery was magical and I hoped to capture even a just a bit of that feeling. There was nobody around and everything was very peaceful. I just sat for a while, watching the leaves fall and get carried by the wind across the road. I was grateful there are still places like this to discover, or escape to, and just enjoy nature.Editing
The raw format image required processing, but I didn't want to overdo it. Everything was so naturally beautiful that I hoped to keep it as close to natural as possible. I had to clean it up some in Lightroom by removing any aberration, bringing up the shadows, adding a little contrast and sharpening to correct any camera shake. I've yet to acquire HDR processing skills, so no photo merging or HDR techniques were used.In my camera bag
My Cannon 70d, and three lenses: Canon 18-200mm f3.5, Tamron 70-300mm f4 and a Canon 25mm f2.8 prime.Feedback
Take time for adventure. Enjoy the ride. Be open and aware of your surroundings. Pay close attention to the light and have a lot of patience. Always support national parks, open space and nature preserves.
