The photo selected is of the remote Po Lin Monastery, situated at the foothill of the iconic Tian Tan Buddha in Hong Kong.Time
I remember it being a super hot late morning, early afternoon in June 2015, it must have been in the high 30's and the sun was blinding; not the greatest lighting situation. Luckily, the Po Lin Monastery is shaded somewhat by the surrounding forestry.Lighting
The image was shot using available light only, whilst the conditions of the day were not favourable, in most circumstances it worked in my favour as the colours were more vibrant and prominent than any other monastery I had previously visited.Equipment
This image was shot simply using a Nikon D3200 and the Nikon 50mm F1.8 G lens.Inspiration
I was inspired to take this photo purely for the prominence of colour. Something so ancient, yet looked so new. Whilst everyone on my level shot the whole monastery, I just wanted to capture a shot full of colour and detail. Its mesmerising.Editing

I have just started my third year in China, and whilst the Nikon D3200 proved so worthy in my recent years, it did not make it out to this trip. I would normally have carried the Nikon D3200, the Nikon 50mm F1.8 G lens, the Nikon 55-300mm F 4.5 - F 5.6 G ED DX lens, a lens cloth, a spare battery, a travel tri-pod and most definitely a spare memory card. This year, I will carry my new Fujifilm XT10, Fuji XF 18-55mm 2.8-4 R LM OIS lens, a spare battery, a lens cloth and of course a spare memory card.Feedback
My personal advice for capturing something similar, particularly in crowded areas is to remain patient, the building will always be there, the people will move on. The most important thing is to enjoy taking images and get out there and make them. What do I mean by this? I have what was considered to be an entry level consumer camera and lens, pretty basic for a beginner, my partner however, had a prosumer camera and lens set up but spent far too much time overthinking lens and angles instead of embracing what was in front of him. If you wanted to capture a shot like this, always look up and zoom in. Detail is often hidden in plain sight.
