Location
This photo was taken at the top of Shrine Pass which is near Vail, Colorado. I'm an avid outdoorsman who loves to camp and shoot a lot of photos on my trips.Time
I took this photo at about 1 in the morning. I used a tripod so I was able to slow down my shutter speed enough to be able to capture all of this in the extremely low light.Lighting
This night was a little too cloudy and the moon was a little too bright to really be able to shoot the stars but the long exposure was easily able to capture the cloudys and give them a very flowy look.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 70D with the 18-135mm kit lens on a Manfrotto tripod. No other equiptment was used.Inspiration
I originally wanted to capture the stars but the weather conditions didn't quite allow for it. I decided to set up anyway and see what I could come up with. Although it wasn't what I had originally been after, I was very happy with how the photo turned out.Editing
I edited this image in Lightroom, applying profile corrections and some tweaks to really bring out the colors and the stars. In my camera bag
I always have my 70D with me along with my kit lens (18-135mm) and a tripod. Since shooting this photo I've added a little bit of extras to the bag including a Tokinon 11-16mm F2.8 lens as well as a Canon 50mm F1.8. I also bring along a smaller travel tripod, a wireless remote shutter, a wired intervalometer and quite a other little nick nacks I might need (batteries etc...)Feedback
Lighting is obviously a huge aspect to landscape photography and is just as crucial when shooting at night. When shooting shots like these it is helpful to have the moon out and somewhat bright to bring out your foreground in the long exposure.
