Location
This photo was taken at the Badlands of South Dakota. I was coming from the foot of the hill and I realized the sun is going to set in a couple of minutes so I rushed towards the peak and by foot went in up to one of the ridges. I waited for the guy to be done taking his pictures but I thought he would not move from that cliff so I decided to just frame the picture with him in it.Time
This was taken at around sunset, most probably around 7pm of September 20, 2015.Lighting
I wanted to capture flares and the starburst so I set my camera at f/16, 125 ISO at 1/10 of a second.Equipment
I shot this with a Sony A7 with a 24-70 f/4 lens, handheld.Inspiration
I love sunrises and sunsets. Those times have zen-like effects to me. Most of the time, I would just drive to a good vantage point just to capture the rising and the setting of the sun.Editing
I shoot jpgs but I did tweak the highlights and the shadows to give some emphasis to the clouds and the starburst. I also did some tweaks on its colors. In my camera bag
I travel light. My Sony A7 has been producing really good image quality. It goes really well with the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 f/4. I also have with me the Canon 85mm 1.8/f and an adapter to fit it to my A7. I have an old reliable 60D which comes in handy next to my Sony.Feedback
Time.. You need to be there just before the sun would set. You have to climb up a steep ridge and it will take some time to set up. Even without a tripod, you would be able to capture a good photo. Just remember to set your iris at a higher value for sharpness and a lot more even depth.
