Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo at the barn I live and work at, Westwood Farm in Oxford, MI. It is about 3 1/2 miles down dirt road, off the main paved road in our town.
Time
It was early in the morning, the sun was just coming up over the trees.
Lighting
I knew it being this early in the morning I could have fun with silhouettes. The fog that was around just made the morning that mush more beautiful.
Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D5100. No tripod, just me standing on top of a fence so the horses legs wouldn't be behind the fence in the photo.
Inspiration
Sunrises are my favorite time of day to take pictures, the lighting is so beautiful. I was at first just taking pictures of the sunrise and the fog, but then those two horses, Freddie and Mouse, were put outside and began to play. So I made sure to capture the moment.
Editing
I only changed the exposure and the shadows in photoshop. I wanted to lighten it a touch so you could see a little more of the scene. Otherwise, that was the true beauty of the moment.
In my camera bag
I have only been taking pictures for fun for about the last year, so my equipment is still limited. I just bought the Nikon D7100 and have the two lenses it came with.
Feedback
Horses tend to be quick with their movements, so if you are patient you can often find those special moments. Some mornings they just walk outside and begin eating, while every now and then they will play and run. Try going outside and photographing animals at sunrise or sunset. The colorful sky can make the most simple things, be so unique.
