I was driving across the plains between Colorado and Kansas City as a storm came rolling across the plains.Time
This was a late afternoon storm, obviously toward sunset. As the winds began to pick up, horizontal rain and even a bit of hail was falling. I took this image and several others under my car. The wind was so intense, that my glass continually was spotted. Just a lot of fun to see the image coming together, but not fully knowing whether I was able to capture it or not.Lighting
The light from the sunset in contrast to the dark and ominous skies was what I was trying to capture. Because the clouds were swirling, the light was constantly changing.Equipment
Canon EOS 6D EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM 28mm/ƒ/3.5/1/50s/ISO 100Inspiration
I was on the highway and could tell the weather was doing really cool things, but in the plains there is not a lot of subjects. I jumped off the highway and drove down what turned out to be a dead end. I was looking to incorporate the wind generators in my shot, but this harrows was just sitting at the end of the road! It was one of those fortunate moments when the being at the right place at the right time really works out.Editing
Primarily I processed this in Lr. Just adding drama to what already was there. In my camera bag
I generally carry the Canon 6D, and the 24-70mm f2.8L II USM and a 70-200 f 4/L USM, and the fantastic plastic 50mm, and a decent 85mm.Feedback
I would say be open to capture a photograph at any time. The calmest day can turn in an instant. I love getting out before dawn, the stillness coupled with the early morning dance of light, even without a great capture, is always worth missing a little sleep. I cary my camera all over the world, sometimes it is cumbersome, but often it results in really fun captures. So I guess I would say simply, be ready, Always. And play, enjoy the beauty all around us. It is a real privilege to be able to capture it sometimes, but I believe as you experience this life, it is captured in your heart and will be with you always.
