Location
This was taken at an abandoned property in my town that is usually off limits to people. Myself and a few other photographers were invited to take pictures of it. This particular building was at one time a dormitory for a women's home that was on the property.Time
It was in the morning about 9:30.Lighting
It was a bright Texas day, so it was actually pretty well lit. I touched it up in Lightroom to really give it the look that I wanted.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon t3, using an18-55mm lens. The ISO was set at 400 with an aperture of f 4.5 and a shutter speed of 1/40 of a second. And I used available light.Inspiration
I had never done pictures of abandoned buildings before, so I wanted to take pictures of the room from as many angles as possible. I really liked the stairs and how they were oriented with the doorway.Editing
I use Lightroom to process my pictures. I knew when I took the picture that I wanted to see how it would look in black and white. I also made adjustments to the brightness and contrast on it to give it a little more of a darker look.In my camera bag
I normally carry a 75-300 mm lens, an 18-55mm lens, extra memory cards and batteries, and and an external flash. I also never go anywhere without my tripod or my monopod.Feedback
Do not be afraid to try something new, and do not put limits on yourself. Shooting from different angles and with a variety of lighting can really change the look of a picture.
