Named "Moon dust" was taken at lake Cootharaba and the tree is known as the wedding tree. The stars are the milky way which are fading out of the picture because of the light from the rising moon. In this shot timing was critical to catch the moon light and still get some star detail.

I just figured out how to do this.Have a double exposure camera. and Take one image of the stars, then the other at the right time. But thats too dangerous for 1 image. Bracket the stars and HDR it on to the bracketed sunrise shots without moving the camera. Great reason to camp and make an awesome image...Bravo!

Wanted to achieve the moon rise and Milky way in one shot but doing so required the perfect balance of light and dark as there is a massive contrast in exposure between moon and star.I guess I am always challenging my self to to achieve difficult shots and to improve my skills at the same time.Editing
Not much. What made this image special to me is the fact it is as the camera saw it. I did do the standard levels white balance noise reduction etc. One thing I will say though is the beach is curved due to it been 3 images merged at 14mm. This was to achieve a larger format and enable me to get all the milky way. The photos were taken in portrait mode to achieve this.In my camera bag
Nikon D810, 24- 70 lens, 14- 24 lens, nodal slide, CPL filte,r full set of neutral grad filters, soft cloth, blower, remote trigger and Manfroto tripod . I have lots of other gear but 99% of the time this is all I use.Feedback
The best advise is have fun with it and don't be scared to experiment. Learn your camera and it's capability's. I do photo tours as a job and it is amazing how many people don't know what there camera is capable of. So that's a bigger learn your camera.
