Location
This was taken at the world famous Sheldrick Animal Orphanage in Nairobi Kenya.Time
I was on a photo safari with exposuretours and booked a morning at the elephant orphanage. It was quite busy but very educational and offered lots of photo opportunitiesLighting
It was a little overcast which was actually perfect for pictures as you dont get harsh shadows or a very contrasty image.Equipment
I used a full frame DSLR and for this shot a 80-200mm lens at 200mmInspiration
I wanted to capture a close up of the fun and caring way these orphaned young elephants were playing,Editing
I use a program called lightroom to correct color and improve the tones/contrast of the imageIn my camera bag
I always shoot full frame and carry a 17-35mm 2.8 a 80-200 2.8 and my favorite 'walk around' lens a 60mm 2.8 that has a macro setting allowing for everything from a full body shot to a close up detail image without changing lenses.Feedback
There were probably a couple of hundred people watching the elephants, having a zoom lens allowed me to exclude distracting background elements and really focus on the details. Its well worth also paying for a fast lens, shooting at f2.8 also gave me a soft diffuse background. Always keep your eye on the action and be ready to shoot in these circumstances, this moment only lasted a few seconds.
