Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo during a wonderful walking in the great Montasio Mountains (Friuli, Italy) and it shows the Canin Mountain. It was quite an improvised adventure and while I was walking back home on the trail at the evening I saw this great panoramic view.

Time

This photo was taken at sunset time, just after a storm.

Lighting

I wanted this image to look dramatic. The storm had just finished and the dark clouds had the perfect contrast and colors to give the scene a perfect mood. In this scenario the light of the sun at sunset and the shadows on the rocks and the other mountains made me understand it was the perfect moment to shoot. The mountain looked so majestic and magnificent! I felt I was in the right place at the right time.

Equipment

I use my Canon 1100D camera, with (yeah!) the kit lens 18-55 mm. No tripod: It was quite an adventure walking back, down of the rocks coming back home, so I looked at that wonderful spectacle and just shoot.

Inspiration

I found the perfect view that every time I look at it, reminds me of the adventures of The Lord of the Rings. I thought this could be a great Middle Earth place, like Moria or the Lonely Mountain. I wait for a dragon, or a couple of Hobbits to suddenly appear somewhere there!

Editing

I am just a newby (I shoot since a year) and think Landscape photography requires both luck and being in the right place and in the right time. Post-processing is also important: I usually increase contrast and vividness both in light and colors to make the scene more dramatic, but nothing more.

In my camera bag

It depends where I must go. I usually have two and more batteries (!) to feel safe, and of course some flash memory. I find quite useful the cleaning lens kit: you can never say. In my bag i put also the 18-55mm kit and the 70-300mm zoom.

Feedback

The best advice I can give is to study and to practice (just like I am doing now), and of course never stop going around exploring the wonders of nature.
