Behind The Lens

Location

I was doing a workshop in Maine and had a free day to explore Acadia National Park, near Bar Harbour, Maine. The hiking trail up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain was made up of large boulders, and in places, they were covered with this amazing multi colored moss. It's an area that is constantly moist from the spray of the Atlantic Ocean, and the salt spray provides many interesting results on the natural terrain. This was my first trip to Maine, but the pull of the ocean will definitely bring me back.

Time

By the time I got to this point in the hike, it was mid morning, as I was constantly stopping to admire the view, and also taking many photographs. Following my hike along the loop trail that summits Cadillac Mountain, I sat at the top of the pile of boulders, just watching the boats and taking in the ocean smells.

Lighting

Lighting was the natural light of the time of day, as i did not have any choice

Nikon 810 with 24-70mm lens

Inspiration

i was just exploring the area of Acadia National Park, as I had never been to Maine before and this is such an iconic part of the eastern coastline.

Editing

I ommitted some of the shadow, while pushing the saturation to bring out the remarckable colors of the moss and the fauna

In my camera bag

I normally travel with two Nikon camera bodies and three lenses. But when I'm hiking and need to be concerned aout my balance and free hands, I will often venture out with just one Nikon 810 and my 24-70mm lens that is more manageable and less weighty then a telephoto lens.

Feedback

There is so much to take in when you are in nature, i try to not just look forward, but to also look down. A closer look at patterns and colors in nature often results in some unusual images that are not quite recognizable until you understand the context. These images stand on there own, whether recognizable or not, because nature provides the most amazing subjects to photograph.
