Location
There's a an abandoned ship in Jordan Harbour, about half an hour West of Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada. You can see the masts of it as you drive along the QEWTime
I went to the location around dusk, but had to wait for a few hours, first so that the sky was dark enough, and then later until the stars and Milky Way were visible.Lighting
I lightpainted the ship using a flashlight so that it would be more visible. The glow in the background is from city light.Equipment

I have a seen a number of images featuring stars, and a number of images featuring shipwrecks. I figured that it would be a great idea to combine the two. I knew about this shipwreck nearby and figured that darkness and the lightpainting would give it an eerie feel.Editing
I mostly use the features in Lightroom for post-processing - i.e. selective lightening, darking, sharpening, etc., but I also like to use Viveza by Nik software to help bring out the stars.In my camera bag
In additional to the items mentioned above I have a number of other lenses, although the 14-18 f/2.8 is definitely my go-to lens. I carry some ND and polarizing filters for landscape photography as well as an intervalomter.Feedback
Be patient and wait for the right time of the night so that the stars are out and somewhat visible. Post-processing is a big part of bringing the stars out.
