Location
This picture was taken in Grayson Highlands area of Virginia. Very near the Summit of Mount Rogers.Time
My family and I hiked all day to get to the area around Mt. Rogers summit and camped over night. After everyone went to sleep I decided to get the camera out and take some pictures. The Grayson Highlands Area of Virginia is a wonderful place to take some photos of the milky way due to not having a lot of light pollution in the area.Lighting
The Lighting was really easy, I had a small nightlight for my daughters since they haven't camped out very much. So I had left the light on in the tent and decide to use it to add a little foreground to the Picture.Equipment
I had taken my Nikon D5200 camera with us on this trip with a Kit lens. but decided to switch to a Tamron 10x24mm wide angle lens and had a Tripod set up to steady everything.Inspiration
A friend of mine in another state is a great Night Photographer. I have done some before but nothing in sky's this dark so I decided toe give it a shot.Editing
I did do some slight color enhancements in Post mainly to get what little Light pollution the picture had, out of it.In my camera bag
Normally I have a Nikon D800 and a lot of 2.8 lenses, but being we were hiking and camping I decided not to carry the Expensive stuff.Feedback
Practice, and keep trying and keep going outside. Nature is a wonderful sight. Practice the leave no trace method, so our kids will have some of the same views we do.
