Location
This photo is the result of a sharp eyed friend describing what she saw, and where she saw it. I was down there the next day and nature duplicated the scene from the previous day. Since the photo was taken looking through a tunnel of trees, it’s only possible for a few days twice a year.Time
Shortly after sunrise, when the sun lined up with the railroad tracks.Lighting
The only lighting was the sun, both direct and reflected off the rails.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D, and a Sigma 80-400mm lens. No other accoutrements were necessary.Inspiration
I’m always keeping an eye out for nature shots as I roam. Apparently, my friend does also!Editing
Various touch-ups, sharpening, etc. nothing major was required. In my camera bag
As a nature photographer, I have to carry it all with me, and as compact as possible. Camera, various lenses I feel I’ll need on that particular expedition, filters, batteries, flash, and the tripod.Feedback
Having friends with a sharp eye that know your passion helps. If that isn’t possible, plan ahead with scouting, and use TPE (The Photographer’s Ephemeris) to find interesting places where the sun will rise and make it happen.
