Location
One of my best and favourite photos. I took it on Mount Troodos square in Cyprus.Time
I went for hiking that day with 3 of my best friends. The trail was 14 km distance. We finished the trail at 7 o'clock in the evening. It was already dark. I wanted to take a last photo before leaving, even if i was too tired at that moment. I wanted to capture the Troodos square at night. I never saw before in a photo the Troodos square captured at night. That was the reason of staying another five minutes there. Suddenly, a dark shadow passed by. It was heading towards the fog. I was very lucky to capture the dark shadow before entering the fog. I knew from that moment that this photo would be a success.Lighting
The photo speaks by itself about the lighting. Nothing more to say.Equipment
I remember using my Canon 5D Mark II on a Manfrotto tripod. I remember using the Canon 17-40 f/4 lens attached on my camera. And a remote shutter release button.Inspiration
The first thing i noticed where the foreground pavement lines leading to the fog. The second thing was the fog, that made this photo more dramatic. The other thing was the negative space of the photo. And the last and most important thing was the dark shadow of a man entering the fog.Editing
Dodge and burn for more sharpening, reverse the photo from colour to black & white. In my camera bag
I always carry in my bag my Canon 5D Mark II, a Carl Zeiss 21mm f/2.8, a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art, a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 Mark II, a wide range of Lee and B+W filters, a Canon Remote Shutter Release, 4 16GB CF cards, 4 camera batteries, a compass, a cleaning blower, a Gitzo ball head and a Gitzo tripod by the side.Feedback
Be patient even if you are tired from an exhausting day. Just wait for the right moment to push the shutter button. And see some photos of Henri Cartier Bresson. I think the way of capturing the scene at the right moment is similar to Bresson's - capturing the photo - tactic.
