This are pictures taken from my observatory thru a telescope. The stars are in the FOV, no photoshop, but the spikes are added.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo from my personal observatory on my backyard.

Time

Of course, this image was taken during a nice clear night. It took most of the night to complete the required exposures in narrowband and LRGB.

Lighting

Lighting is provided by the glowing gas surrounding the stars.

Equipment

I used a Celestron 8" C8 telescope with a 10:1 focuser. An LRGB + NB filter set. Telescope was mounted on a Celestron CGEM mount on a pier. Camera used a Canon 60Da. A Lumicon 50mm guiding scope with an Orion guiding camera.

Inspiration

I consider M42 or The Orion's Nebula, to be one of the most beautiful objects to observe and to image because of it's great gas formation and expansion.

Editing

The post processing was necessary due to the frames being so dark and because of the stacking process. Calibration and alignment are also part of the post processing as well as enhancing the colors. For this I used DSS(Deep Sky Stacker), PS CC, Topaz Suite, and Star Tools software( for star spikes).

In my camera bag

As this is some kind of special process my equipment for this is usually the same as stated before.

Feedback

Planning and location, location, location. Patience and perseverance. Do a good drift alignment. Make sure you have plenty of frames(L,D,B,Luminance) to process in order to get enough data for details.
