Awesome photograph

Behind The Lens

Location
This was taken in Dorset at a supported living facility, they had a large garden and fed all the wildlife that entered into it. This was taken through a kitchen window as the squirrel came in for his breakfast.
Time
I had just got into work at 7.30 a.m., fed the residents and was preparing a cup of tea when I saw this fellow scuttling across the lawn. I grabbed my camera which is always with me and quickly cleaned the window area through which I would be taking the picture. I had to wait a while until he decided to sit on the roof of the bird feeder.
Lighting
Fairly early morning, so the light was not too strong which gave me an even lighting to highlight the brightness of the whites in his tail and chest
Equipment
Hand-held Nikon D40 with 300mm Sigma lens held closely to the window pane to avoid reflection
Inspiration
I just love photographing nature and it's inhabitants, this squirrel seemed to have so much character which I tried to depict in the shot.
Editing
I cropped the shot slightly, other than that it was straight out of camera
In my camera bag
I have two cameras, a Nikon D40 with standard and 300mm lens. A Nikon P530 as a quick grab camera, a tripod, lens cleaners, ND and Polorised filters. A neck pillow (used for travelling) as this is very handy to lay the camera on to avoid shake in cars, string to make a make--shift tripod when there is no room to set up the proper tripod (triangulated under both feet and over the camera).
Feedback
Have your equipment handy and have a lot of patience, take numerous shots as there is no second chances with nature.
