Location
I took this photo during a deep sea fishing trip near Santa Catalina Island.Time
As we were headed back to California around mid afternoon,Lighting
Although the sun was up, the light was just enough for this shot. Since I was using a Canon zoom lens EF-S 55-250 mm, using fill flash from afar was just useless.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS Rebel T3i and Canon zoom lens EF-S 55-250 mm for this shot at f/5.6, ISO 200 and exposure of 1/1000. I had no tripod during this trip, but I did made sure that the stabilizer on my lens was on.Inspiration
Since I joined Viewbug, I was still learning how to improve my photography skills. Although I joined this fishing trip, I also brought with me my camera just in case something interesting came up. Well, bringing my camera paid off! As we were on our way back to Long Beach, I noticed a lot of birds following our boat - seagulls and pelicans included, I got inspired to take some photo shots. These birds would try to land on the sea every now and then to eat as some unwanted fish parts are thrown out to sea by the person cleaning the fishes caught by the fishermen. Am just thankful to God for the opportunity to take beautiful pictures of nature and His creation.Editing
Yes, simply adjusting some contrast and making sure there are no dust marks on my photos. In my camera bag
A Canon Rebel T5i body and its kit lens, Canon EF-S 55-250 mm zoom lens, and Yongnuo Speedlite YN568EX II.Feedback
With avian photography, you need to be aware where the sun is shining from to keep your subject lighted properly. I try not to take photos of the unlighted side of a bird unless I want to take silhouettes. To freeze the action, make sure your exposure is above 1/500 and above. Plus, you will need to take as many pictures as you can and select the best from these.
