Behind The Lens

Location
This image was from a dance project in the spring with 2 friends I regularly shoot with. We set up at the Fraser Valley Academy of Dance and shot with their advanced class, a very talented group of young dancers.
Time
This was an afternoon shoot, but all lighting was strobe, so really time doesn't matter as much as convenience for the dancers.
Lighting
We ran white backdrop on one side and black at the other end of the room, 3 strobes at each end, for the most part using sharp angles.
Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5dii and am L series lens. 28-135mm
Inspiration
My favorite thing to shoot is human potential, and dance is one of the best subjects for doing it.
Editing
I import in lightroom and do filter and touch ups in Photoshop. Nik & topaz filters are my current favorites.
In my camera bag
Canon 5dii, 28-135 L lens (favorite), cactus triggers, Model releases, a polarizing filter, and a whack of double a's.
Feedback
Take the risk and book the gig. Process it asap and make sure everyone knows they can get prints through you. Get the director of the school to step in on choreography... Makes an enormous difference in the images.
