This photo was taken at home in my garden. I am a self taught photographer who enjoys photographing nature. Flowers are among my favorite things to take pictures of. I love detail so I often turn to my macro lens for that special shot.Time
I noticed some beautiful Tiger Lilies that had just opened up early one morning. I decided to use a macro lens for this shot and took the picture at 9:48 a.m. on June 18th of 2015.Lighting
Because it was a beautiful sunny day no additional lighting was needed, it is all natural sun light.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Nikon D7100 ~ focal length 105mm ~ shutter speed 1/500sec ~ aperture f9 ~ ISO 1250. I used a AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm lens. No tripod, flash or other equipment was used.Inspiration
This particular Tiger Lily was so bright and colorful with patterns that reminded me of Tie Dye t-shirts from back in the 60's and 70's. Remember those t-shirts that you tied with string or rubber bands then dipped them in dye and waited for them to dry. When the string or rubber bands were removed you had a piece of art. No two shirts were the same and it was always interesting to see what pattern you had created. That's what I thought of when I looked thru my macro lens.Editing
The image was slightly cropped with a very small adjustment to contrast, saturation and sharpness. In my camera bag
Items I always carry in my bag are - my 105mm macro lens, AF-S Micro Nikkor, my 70-300mm zoom lens, AF-S Nikkor and my 18-105mm AF-S lens. I also carry small flashlights in case additional lighting is needed, lens cleaner, a cover for my camera in case of rain and most importantly, a spare fully charged extra battery. Even though the bag is a little heavy, I would rather have my different camera lens with me than miss a special moment because I left them at home.Feedback
Lighting is everything so I take pictures at different times of day to see what I like best. If using a macro lens, move a little closer or pull back some until the camera adjusts. Moving yourself just a hair can make the difference between a crisp, clear shot or a blurry one. Using a macro lens opens up a tiny world that cannot always be seen with the naked eye.
