We walked the entire ranch photographing different angels with different types of light, while waiting for the perfect golden hour to arrive. Finally, we had a beautiful orange sky around 7:30 in the evening, when this photograph was taken.Lighting
I am always searching for the perfect lighting for my photographs. Especially when shooting outside. Photographing close to sunset gives me that beautiful warm look that I love. I look for open shade during this time to give my photographs an even, warm light.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 5D Mark III. A 70-200 2.8mm lens was used. This image was shot at 135mm. Camera setting were 1/250 sec, F4.5, ISO 320 No tripod or flash was used for this image.Inspiration
As a pet photographer, I love to be able to show the bond between pets and their owners. Horses and their owners share one of the most beautiful and strong bonds I have ever seen between people and animals. This little girl and her pony are just starting their bond that I'm sure will last for many years to come.Editing
I run a clean base action (from Florabella actions) on all of my photographs to make sure the color, contrast, and lightness/darkness is the look I'm wanting. I also use a natural skin smoother on all the people in the image. I want everyone to look their best!In my camera bag
I always have my Canon 5D Mark III. I carry 2 main lenses. My 70-200mm 2.8 lens and my 24-70mm lens. Between these 2 lenses I can cover everything I photograph. 90% of the time though my 70-200mm is what's on my camera. I also pack a 580 EX flash unit in my bag.Feedback
Capturing a bond between people and their pets takes patience and understanding. Being aware of the pets feelings is key to getting the right expression in your image. I like to allow the person and their pet to have time to warm up to the camera before putting them into any poses. The pet always has to be comfortable with their surroundings to be able to relax and allow me to capture the best moments.
