I took this image on the way up to the mountains on what turned out to be an otherwise failed photo outing. I caught the sight out of the corner of my eye through the trees on the highway at 100km-hr. I had to decide very quickly that I did glimpse something amazing, find a shoulder to park on the side of the highway and run back a LONG ways to find it again!

Thank you! I have returned repeatedly to this area for more, but that day had one-of-a-kind conditions. Blessed to have been there.

Location
This photo was taken from the highway on my way to Manning Park , British Columbia. Manning Park is a ski resort in the winter and a hiking and recreation area in the warmer seasons. It is a four hour drive from my home in Abbotsford, B.C., and I was a bit sad because I couldn't find any one who had the time off to come with me. I was nervous about driving with some snow on the roads and hiking the trails on my own. The whole outing was a disappointment. The trail I wanted was closed, and the other was giving me nothing for my camera. In fact, when I downloaded the few pictures I took, I labelled it "Manning Fail." I glimpsed this view out of the corner of my eye from the highway about an hour from my destination. I had to find a pull out and run back about a half mile to capture this.Time
I had to get up early to make the 4 hour drive to Manning Park.. This view showed itself out of the corner of my eye as I was travelling down the highway and I estimate it was about 6-7:00 in the morning. The day was starting to warn up, and I think that's what made the mist on the waterLighting
All the lighting credit goes to God. I had nothing to add. It was simply beautiful, natural light, and probably why it caught my eye at 80 km/hour and with a 2 second glimpse.Equipment
Canon EOS T5i. Handheld and 16-300 Tamron lens.Inspiration
I live in a beautiful part of the world, and being active outside in it, and catching images and scenes that fill me with awe and gratefulness is a driving force in my life. I got up at 5:00 am to drive to a location with a lot of promise. Early mornings show especially unique combinations of nature and light and color. I had no intention of taking any photos en route, but this one made me slam on my brakes, find a pull out and run back to get it. I have tried 4 more times to take the long drive to repeat this image, and I can't even find where it was taken! The magic of that morning at that moment won't be duplicated.Editing
I know I tried to take care of the sun flare in the corner, but at the time I knew very little photo-shop, and doubt that much more was done. Perhaps I adjusted the levels. In my camera bag
I am a lazy but persistent photographer. I usually carry a Tamron 16-300 for landscape outings, and Sigma 100 macro for macro work. I sometimes remember a tripod and cable release. So I'm lazy in that I don't pack carefully or thoughtfully but I am persistent in that I outlast everyone out there! I take extra batteries along!Feedback
Since this image and view was a one of a kind gift, and even I have never been able to get another like it, the only other advice I have is to get out of bed! Get those nature shots early. There is magic in the morning.
