Squeezing in photography around my day job generally means i shoot at night...this one was around 8pm.Lighting
i kept the lighting fairly simple on this one... 120cm Octa double diffused, camera right with a silver reflector camera left.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 5d II with a 50mm 1.8 lens and 400w studio strobe.Inspiration
Im a huge fan of dark fantasy visuals, so a lot of my stuff tends to lean that way and on the flipside after seeing Paul Apalkin's work i fell in love with the way he lights and edits his images so mixing the two seemed like a natural thing to do for me. Inspiration comes from many places, but on this occasion i can definitely acredit it to Paul.Editing
Yes, post work features heavily in my workflow, i find it just as enjoyable as taking the shot. I started with a general portrait clean up, worked on the colour balance with adjustment layers and added in the flowing hair digitally. I tend to try a variety of treatments as i go and although i have an idea in my head, i never really have a set outcome, it just kind of organically happens until im satisfied with the result.In my camera bag
The first thing that goes in is the 135f2, i would never leave home without this lens, i think its one of the most beautiful lenses ive ever used. Next the trusty nifty fifty 1.8mm, and occasionally an old sigma 24mm i have laying around. Being fairly new to photography (around 2 years) i have yet to add more to the collection. Flash triggers, a reflector and a couple of flashes go in along with memory cards and batteries!!Feedback
yep, study what you like about an image, learn how its lit... Get your lighting right, nail your focus and the rest will fall in to place. The more you can do in camera the less challenging work you'll do in post.
