This photo was taken just off of Peak to Peak Highway in the Mountains of Colorado not far from where I live. I find the Mountains here to be very inspiring. I am always amazed to see trees growing in the most unlikely places.

When I compare this cropped image with the larger un-cropped version I think I get what you are attempting to achieve with the cropping and composition. I'd like to suggest another version of this image, which would result from your going back to the original and cropping out the rock right up to the base of the tree. Leave around two third of sky (if possible) above the rock, and a lot more horizontal space on both sides of the tree. Position the tree towards the left (as you have done here). What I envisage is something more panoramic with an expanse of blue sky that 'dwarfes' the tree to some extent but nevertheless brings greater attention to its singularity. I am not at all implying that your image doesn't achieve much of this already. But it would be interesting to see what an additional cropped version would look like.
