Behind The Lens

Location

Sheringham in Norfolk on the south east coast of England

Time

Late afternoon.

Lighting

A storm was coming over and the clouds were very textual and strong. The light was complex because of this, I knew instantly it would be a good black and white as the colours where dulled form the weather and the light was so beautiful.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D7100 with a sigma wide angle.

Inspiration

Just the lighting really. Light like that doesn’t come around like that every day, and I thought I’d take the opportunity.

Editing

I used lightroom to process the image, I like very contrasty black and whites and then I dodge and burn to highlight and darken the neccissary areas to bring out the detail.

In my camera bag

Nowadays I use a Nikon d750 with a Nikon 50mm, Tokina 16-28 and a sigma 105 macro.

Feedback

Just wait for the light, don’t snap because it’s a similar image, complex light can be found anywhere, without storms or clouds. Use doorways or windows or buildings. Anything that can change or diffuse light in some way.
