A thick fog covered the area of South Ripley In Queensland Australia. It was minus One degree's Celsius and a mild frost also covered the ground. Just as the sun rose over the mountains it shot the most amazing Crepuscular rays through this large tree and through the fog lighting the grass and the sky. Trully an Amazing moment.

Behind The Lens

Location
This image was captured in a beautiful little area called South Ripley in Queensland Australia.
Time
This image was capture as the sun rose over the hills at sunrise beside a large waterway which is popular for providing thick fog in the mornings.
Lighting
With this shot it was a challenge to get the right exposure. If I had a filter I may have considered using it to help with the brightness from the sun. But luckilly I set the tree as a blocker for the rays and adjusted the settings to balance the rays surrounding the tree.
Equipment
For this image I used the Nikon D750 with the Nikon 24-85mm lens at around 30mm to frame the tree. I needed the use of a tripod as well as a wireless remote to avoid lens movement. In the end I was able to capture this shot with a reasonable speed shutter that meant it could have been captured handheld.
Inspiration
From the Day I picked up a camera I had seen images that were simply amazing and involved fog. To see the sun cut through fog and dance with the light was just beautiful. After two years I was finally faced with this amazing moment that was so special I can't even describe the feeling. And to top it off I had a few days old pure white calf feeding from it's mother just meters away which I captured in a wide pano version. This moment is what photography is all about.
Editing
I raised the clarity a tiny bit and shadows. The colour was spot on and needed no changes so for me. This image was almost perfection.
In my camera bag
In my Lowepro bag I carry a Nikon D750, A Nikon 24-85mm f/4.5 lens, A Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 lens. I also use a Opilass wireless remote and carry but rarely use a Patchmaster lightning and sound trigger. And I also carry basic cleaning gear and pens.
Feedback
Have patience and try again and again. Not every or any image will happen first time. But the joy and feeling it brings when that magical moment happens just makes all the long hours and early mornings worth it. As long as you are passionate you will get the shot. Just don't be down if it's not right away.
