A composition of some CD's that I misted with water for effect. Water is my absolute favorite thing in the world. It has so many forms, all of the beautiful and unique. From snowflakes to water droplets, to fog rolling down a mountainside, I can't get enough of water. I hope this picture initiates those same feelings in other people!
The lighting for this shot was all natural, from a window.
The colors, although edited for a higher saturation, are the original colors (No filters, fake colors, etc.)
Of all the images I've ever composed so far, this one is my favorite. I hope everyone who views it loves it as much as I do!

I'm guessing an arranged pile of old CD/DVD's (writable), with water sprayed over them?

Thanks! And yes, you are correct. I'm glad it was useless CD's since they are now ruined. And I did spray them with an old perfume bottle filled w/ water.

this is an eye grabber from the get go and the reflections and colors are wonderful! Love it and I found it very interesting how it was done with the CDs. Very nice!

I absolutely love how simple, yet effective this image is. From the colors, to the texture with the water, and the minimal post processing, you have NAILED it, my friend! I would frame this! Kudos!

Beautiful image! Also, was the pun intentional? "Windows" disks?
ASF401
ASF401 March 09, 2016
Thank you! That actually was not intentional, I just had the CD's near a window so I could get better lighting. I hadn't even thought of that link!

Oh I have to agree with you about water being a favorite thing :) I love everything about it too! That's why I choose to live at the beach, near rivers, waterfalls, and lots and lots of rain :) I am happiest when it rains :) This is a pretty unique and creative photo. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and work.

Behind The Lens

Location
I took this photo in my homemade studio, inside my room.
Time
Probably around 3-5 PM. The lighting from my window is just right at that time.
Lighting
I used completely natural lighting. I don't have the $$$ for a professional studio, so I created my own next to a window in my room. In the late evening, the sun shines directly through said window. I used that as my main source of light- I also used a flash to get some highlights on the droplets.
Equipment
I used a Canon t5, with the kit macro lens. Although I'm saving up to buy a better macro lens, this one works well for me. I used the camera's built in flash to get that little bit of extra lighting that I needed to expose it correctly. I used my tripod to help eliminate camera shake. I also used old CD's for the photo, and an old perfume bottle (refilled with water) as a mister to create the water droplets on the CD's
Inspiration
Well, to be honest, a lot of things inspired me! One of the main things was a photo I saw here on ViewBug. I saw someone had used an old CD and placed water on it with an eye dropper, creating a very impressive photo. As a high school student who doesn't have much money or time to go out scouting for good photos, water on a CD seemed like a great idea to me! My other inspiration was the competition here on VB as well- I really wanted to impress the judges and stand out, so I worked very hard to find things that I could get good photos of, such as this one.
Editing
Not much really. I took probably 500+ pictures to get it just right (In my eyes, at least. I'm a perfectionist). I believe I used photoshop 6 to touch up the contrast and sharpness on the photo, and I believe I adjusted the brightness slightly (As you probably know, natural lighting is never reliable). But for the most part it came out exactly how I wanted right from the get-go! Also, as a side note, the different color hues came from the CDs themselves, not photoshop.
In my camera bag
Well, I always have my Cannon EOS T5, two interchangeable lenses; My EFS 18-35mm and a 75-300mm zoom lens. I also use an insignia polarizeing filter. Those are my basic "tools", although I will also use anything else I can get my hands on!
Feedback
Don't be afraid to experiment! Photography is art, and in art, the artist is always right! Use new techniques and new angles, no matter what other people say; I know that I constantly find myself trying to find ways to photograph anything I can! Use natural lighting to your advantage; Use old household items and recreate them in a photograph! Also, don't let money or time hold you back! This photo is something I created using thing from around my house. Use things you like or try strange new things- I once lit the stem of an apple on fire to make it look like a candle! (That didn't end too well). Sometimes you will fail, actually a lot of times you'll fail. But every success will be worth it if you just keep persevering. In my photography, I like to show how simple things like a few CD's and an old perfume bottle can be remade into something beautiful!
