Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at a local amusement park, Knoebels, while visiting with my daughters.

Time

This was one of the last photos I took that evening, about an hour after sunset. It was taken on August 3, 2015.

Lighting

Because there were plenty of lights around me and I obviously wanted to focus of the photo to be the ride there was no additional lighting used.

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon 70D with a Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM wide angle lens on a tripod.

Inspiration

As a relatively new photographer, I wanted to try my hand at “playing” with shutter speeds and thought this would be a wonderful opportunity. My daughters were on the ride and although you obviously cannot see them, makes it even more special to me.

Editing

As with my photography, I don't have a lot of experience with post-processing. That being said, I started with a preset within Adobe Lightroom and then simply made some minor tweaks to give the photo what I felt was a nostalgic air.

In my camera bag

I don't have a lot of equipment at this time, but I try to change up what I carry with me dependent on the type of photography I plan on doing. I don't have any one "specialty" but find myself doing landscapes and macro most often, so I'll have my Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 and likely still take along my Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 compact macro lens and some auto focus macro extension tubes.

Feedback

My advice to anyone who wants to capture something similar is to look at what others have done and the camera settings they have used, then use those settings as a baseline. Then start taking as many pictures from various perspectives as you can, adjusting your settings as you go until you find what you like. Even more importantly, enjoy yourself and have fun with it.
