Location
This photo was taken on the east coast of the Ekoln lake, south of Uppsala city in Sweden. It's about 10-15 min driving away from where I live.Time
It was a calm afternoon. Less than an hour before the sunset. I thought it's going to be a good chance of taking some nice shots. I wanted to have water in my frame and try some long exposures. So I headed to the lake. It was on 24th of March 2015, around 6pm.Lighting
By the time I reached there and found a location worth taking pictures, the sun was almost setting down. I pulled out my camera and my tripod and tried several different compositions. There wasn't too much cloud in the sky but it was enough to create a nice pattern and catching some colors of sunset.Equipment
I used my Canon 70D camera equipped with my Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens. For taking a long exposure shot I used my Induro tripod and a ND filter which I can't recall what stop was it.Inspiration
The calmness of the day and a gorgeous sunset with lovely colors in the sky reflected on the water was my inspiration for taking this image. I tried some very different compositions, There was a lonely tree next to the water with a bench underneath it also some rocks in the water. I tried them all, but for showing off how peaceful was this place, I tried a simple compositon, just one boulder in the right and a hint of the coast line in the left of the frame as my foreground and main subject would be the setting sun.Editing
I did some exposure adjustment and some dodging and burning here and there, especially over the left rocks. There were some leaves and reeds in the water, which I removed. In my camera bag
Recently I switched to Fuji system. My only camera body is a Fujifilm X/T4. For landscape photography I will carry my Fujinon XF 10-24/4 R OIS with me, An ultrawide lens. Plus Fujifilm XF 55-200mm F3.5-4.8 R LM OIS, which is a telephoto zoom lens. I always have a polarizar filter and a set of ND filters in my bag. Also my Induro tripod is a must. Some plastic bags, cable release and a head lamp are some items they live in my bag too.Feedback
Make it simple... Try to avoid disturbing elements and clutter, A key to a good composition is to make it simple and balanced. We all love fantastic views, but sometimes, especially now with this new pandemic situation, It is hard to travel too far. So try simple compositions where ever you have access to.
