Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at Loch Lomond on my camera's first day out! I love this shot of Garrin playing in the water

Time

It was in the afternoon

Lighting

For once it was a sunny day in Scotland and everything was just right to get this shot and as luck would have it at the right angle as Garrin went passed

Equipment

Just my Nikon 7000 with a Nikon 18-135mm lens set on sports mode as I hadn't worked out any of the settings.

Inspiration

I love taking photo's of animals and action shots of them. We're often up at the Loch with the dogs and the movement of the water gives that something extra to the photo.

Editing

Nothing, in fact it was shot as a JPEG as i had no idea about RAW until i joined my local camera club. This is how it came off the camera somehow i managed to get the right panning speed, exposure and pressed the button at the right time!

In my camera bag

Normally i have a spare battery (always have a back up battery) and extra memory cards never go wrong either. I carry two lens the Nikon 18-135 mm and a larger lens for action shots. Cleaning equipment is also important, some filters depending on what i'm after on the day and a smaller camera that is waterproof (either a GoPro or Fujifilm XP). I also have my little notebook filled with settings and ideas that may prove useful which when doing any night time photography is a great reference.

Feedback

Patience is required when working with animals and be ready for the unexpected as that could be your winning shot. Have fun with it too, panning is probably the tricky part in order to stay in focus so practice this and go with the flow. I have found over the years having the camera set on continuous shot helps.
