Behind The Lens

Location

Taken in my backyard in Plano, Texas. This is a rose I called my "Tina Rose", grown from a rose bush I planted 16 years ago when my special daughter Tina passed away. It blooms several times a year for the past 16 years.

Time

Photo was taken after a good rain and when the sun began to set; therefore, by shooting in macro I could focus on the details to pop out as the background showed black.

Lighting

Shot in the evening when the sun began to set. Made the background black as it focused on the details with little remaining light.

Equipment

Hand held photo with my old simple Panasonic Lumix for this one. Great little compact quick shot camera with super telephoto/macro options. Although it's great to have a super nice camera, it's really the eye of the photographer that catches the great photos. Anyone can own a good camera, but not everyone can see what good photographers see.....it's like an artist painting, when they paint what they see in their mind.

Inspiration

When I see something that's beautiful to me, I tend to pull out the camera. Whether it be on the side of a road, the backyard or some far away mountain or beach region. I've begun to travel more so I get to see more and more beautiful images everyday! Live in the present and appreciate all the simple things in life.

Editing

No post processing other than cropping or "brighten" it up with auto bright from laptop. No special software as Photoshop or Light-room, was used.

In my camera bag

I have a couple of camera bags so the size and contents of the bag/backpack depends where and how long I'm traveling. I typically carry my small bag: (3) micro fiber lens cloths, camera lens brush, lens filter, gloves, extra battery with charger, (3) 32 gb or 64 gb SD cards, a thin shower cap (to cover when raining), plus my Cannon Rebel T5 and Sigma 18-200 lens. If going on a cruise or long distance, I would take my larger backpack camera bag and have my wide angle lens with my Sigma 70-400 lens.

Feedback

Along with a good eye, lighting and patience can make a great photo. The WB can also be adjusted to show different warmth in a photo; however, this photo was set on WB auto. On occasion, I like to set the WB on shade when shooting on the water, or autumn landscapes; just to give the photo a more warm feeling.
