Behind The Lens

Location
Image was taken in the cloisters of the University of Glasgow.
Time
Photograph was taken in July about noon.
Lighting
The more traditional view is usually taken with much stronger side lighting giving fairly strong shadows going from left to right. I liked the flatter image highlighting the shaft of light coming from the doorway just as the doors were about to be opened.
Equipment
Canon 100D with 18-135 Canon lens set at 18mm. ISO 800 at 1/80 f5.0 with no flash. Hand held.
Inspiration
I liked the stream of light from the door, coming towards the camera position. I keep varying between two title for this image 'The door wherein I went' and because it is an entrance to Glasgow University buildings I like the title 'The doors of opportunity' as well. I do quite like visiting places which many others photograph and seeing if I can come up with a different angle on the traditional shots.
Editing
I post processed in Canon DPP4 bringing up settings to give warmer tones, and lightening the shadows. Also later in Photoshop I dulled down the lights in the ceiling which I felt detracted from the image.
In my camera bag
Normally have my Canon 100D with the Canon 18-135 lens and Sigma 105 macro. Usual filters. For wildlife trips I add my Canon 400mm 5.6 lens with 1.4 Canon adapter and the smaller canon spacer. I also have Canon 430 flash gun. Also Manfrotto tripod and 804RC2 head.
Feedback
As stated above the conventional view of this shot is taken with much stronger side-lighting. In fact at a recent camera club competition this images was marked down because of the lack of side-lighting. I liked my image as it matched my title for the club competition of 'The door of opportunity' for through these doors for many decade some of the most promising students of the university would enter.
