"I was walking in Memphis just a few feet off of Beale" when I looked across the street as passing between two parked cars on my side of the road and I spotted this unreal scene. A grungy band sat on this concrete wall and we're playing on the side of the street with their "road dog" lying down. This was one of those moments I was thankful I had my camera. I reached down made a quick adjustment to settings and click. After the very first click, these guys recognized me and started acting crazy and I couldn't get anymore shots off that I would be happy with. I was so excited to see that the first image was a keeper! Later that evening headed back to my truck I passed these guys on their side of the street. They were crude speaking and stank to high heavens but man they could play some amazing ear tickling music to make your soul scream out. What a great moment to capture because for me I captured the image, the sounds, and the smells of this snapshot in history!

A very nice image that shares a story, though lack of eye contact and a slight elevation seems to put you above the performers. The viewer has to wonder what the heck the guys are looking at??

An amazing shot, so great that you were able to catch this one before they caught on to you!

A picture like this is just what I had in mind when I created the challenge 'Streetphotography Dogs'. Simply wonderful! I'd be very happy to see this terrific photo in my challenge.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the way to take a few final images for my niece's senior photo shoot. I was hoping to capture a cool picture of my niece with all the amazing signs of Beale Street which is known for amazing music every night of the year!

Time

This was taken right about dark during the spring so around 6 pm.

Lighting

This shot was taken with only ambient lighting available and a little backlighting from the signage in the background.

Equipment

This was handheld taken with a Canon 5d Mark III with a Canon 135 mm f/2.0 L Len

Inspiration

"I was walking in Memphis just a few feet off of Beale" when I looked across the street as passing between two parked cars on my side of the road and I spotted this unreal scene. A grungy band sat on this concrete wall and were playing on the side of the street with their "road dog" lying down. This was one of those moments I was thankful I had my camera. I reached down made a quick adjustment to settings and click. After the very first click, these guys recognized me and started acting crazy and I couldn't get anymore shots off that I would be happy with. I was so excited to see that the first image was a keeper! Later that evening, as I headed back to my truck, I passed these guys on their side of the street. They were crude speaking and stank to high heavens but man they could play some amazing ear tickling music to make your soul scream out. What a great moment to capture because for me I captured the image, the sounds, and the smells of this snapshot in history!

Editing

The photo was made black and while through post processing in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark III with Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L, Canon 135 mm f/2.0, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, Canon 24-105mm f/4.0, Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8, Sigma 1.4 TC and Sigma 2.0 TC

Feedback

This was one of those moments that only lasted a second. The music was playing and the dog was lying down and a second after I clicked the head singer started posing making the photo less appealing. I was thankful to have the opportunity to experience this moment in time.
