Behind The Lens
Location
On holidays in Cambodia. Ondaung Russey Village at Kampong Chhnang. The Khmer style pottery at this village is their speciality.Time
This was in the afternoon on the same day that we visited the lotus fields. Not exactly ideal .Lighting
The air was slightly smoggy so the afternoon light though bright was not harsh. The shadows highlights this created adds to the picture.Equipment
Nixon D5200, with 18-55 mm lens fully extended to 55. I used f13 iso 200 as I was aiming to create a depth of field into the jumble of pots.Inspiration
Wandering around I came across this stack pile of pots ready for sale and distribution. the terracotta colour was so striking in mass that it caught my attention. I couldn't resist a shot. The low angle was the best result and the shadows from the trees gave an interesting definition to the pile.Editing
I did need to crop some background out of the original so that I kept the single colour theme. I also lightened the shadows a bit. Don't have photoshop but I am seriously considering learning. In my camera bag
Nixon D5200, 18 - 55 and 55 -300 lens, uv filter , polarising filter, spare batteries , cards and all the extra bits wipes brushes for cleaning .Feedback
Always try different angles and look around for the not so obvious shot. I'm always last on buses or whatever as I wander off all the time. Experiment with settings f stops, iso . Digital photography has opened up the creative in me as : "if it doesn't work , delete and try again."
