Location
I prepared and took this photo at my home. A self-made photo studio in my basement...Time
It was about 10 pm I think. The preparation and the arrangement of all the elements are what took me most time. More than to take the photo itself...Lighting
It is certainly what was the most difficult to define: the lightings... I wanted that the set not too much enlightened but we had to see all the elements and they were many... After several tests, I finally opted for a single fixed light and enlightened elements one by one with a flashlight. While using it a rather long exposure time.Equipment
Of course I needed a tripod for the long exposure. I also used my computer as a remote device to have a better control over the exposure and the time dedicated to light objects one by one. The lens was a classic 18-55 mm... No flash, just the camera, the computer, one fixed lighting and the flashlight...Inspiration
That's funny... In fact, it is the fate which inspired me this photo ! By making a secondhand trade, I fell on this camera FEX which was broken and sold to an absurdly low price. I bought it to serve me as decoration then have thougt of this photo which I could make : "the photographer desktop"... From this moment, I began looking for all which could serve me and which dated more or less the same period as the FEX camera. The typewriter was lent to me by a friend, the Kodak camera by one of my aunts... and then I bought some small objects and found the rest in affairs of family...Editing
Yes, I had to do post-processing because I had used a green background. There was really no background bookcase . I added it afterward. In my camera bag
I've got a Canon 5D Mark III & a Canon 7D and various lenses : A Canon 50mm f/1.4, a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS USM II, a Sigma 24-105 ART f/4, a Tokina 16-28 f/2.8; a Lensbaby Composer Pro f/2, old lenses & some coloured filters too...Feedback
I would say that this kind of idea need a lot of work... but also a lot of preparation by finding the subject and all which compose it. There is a work of imagination too... Think about what could go with this thing or this other one, you know... Every step to take such a photo is really important... and, from the idea to the final picture, there are many steps in fact... 1, find the elements... 2, place each of them, 3, test lightings possibilities, 4, find a good angle, 5, find the best time exposure to create something realistic... 6, doing post-processing to give the final rendering... the one that create the deliberate atmosphere...
