This low-precipitation supercell thunderstorm produced an EF3 tornado on July 13, 2015 near Nickerson, KS. This produced gorgeous conditions for viewing and photographing this powerful phenomenon that is normally wreathed in rain and mist. The blue sky and sun to the left (west) provide beautiful lighting and a rare contrast. I was fortunate enough to be able to drive to the end of my lane (with all my photography gear pre-loaded in my car as it always is) to take this shot. Sony A7r, 16-35mm FE lens, 24mm, ISO 100, three bracketed exposures at 1-100, 1-400, 1-1600th. Combined in Photomatix with exposure fusion, Macphun Intensify, all blended by hand.
