This image was taken in Alaska while I was there on a mission trip working with underprivileged kids! We had one day to go sightseeing! Alaska is an amazing place! Can't wait to go back!Time
It was taken about 5:32 PM in the afternoon. We were visiting the Alaska Wildlife Convention Center and it was a cloudy day. This elk was just sitting there munching away with the mountain in the background!Lighting
As I mentioned before it was a cloudy day so I had beautiful light! However the sun was peeking through just a little bit to camera left which gave me a beautiful rim light on the Elk!Equipment
I shot this image with a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon 100mm macro lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
The elk was just sitting there with this beautiful mountain in the background and great lighting. I wanted to do an HDR but it can be very difficult when shooting animals because they are constantly moving. I took several shots before I finally got three where it was still enough to get my HDR!Editing
I processed this image using Photomatix and then into Photoshop to do color correction, sharpening and cropping.In my camera bag
I carry with me a Canon 5D mark II. A Canon macro 100mm 1:2.8 L and a Canon 50mm 1:1.4. The 100mm macro has got to be my most favorite of all! This lens is very sharp and fast!Feedback
The best advice I can give anyone on shooting wildlife photos is to be very patient! I waited for a while shooting several images and then all of the sudden the elk was very still, and that is when I got my three shots for my HDR!
