I captured this photograph at the Kwandwe Private Game Reserve in South Africa.Time
This is one of my absolute favourite images and funny enough it was one of the first images I had ever taken on the new entry level digital camera that my parents had bought me for my birthday that year. I had always had an interest in photography. I started learning about composition and lighting with a vintage Pentax film camera. So when i was given my first digital camera I was eager to get out and capture what ever I could and where better to start than at a beautiful game lodge documenting wildlife. We had set out for an afternoon game drive to look for the big five. We unfortunately didn't see many animals for most of the drive. I was very disappointed at the thought of going back to the lodge not having been able to capture anything worthwhile on my new camera. Whilst driving back to the camp I watched the sun start to set and thought to myself "this light is perfect". Suddenly when we were nearing the lodge the guide slammed the breaks of the vehicle and told us all to be quiet. He then looked at me and pointed to the left of me and there from behind the bushes the brothers appeared - I was ecstatic.Lighting
The lighting that day could not have been better. Wildlife photography is largely about timing and composition. Wildlife is extremely unpredictable and thus I was very lucky to have the light so perfectly positioned and the brothers so perfectly posed.Equipment
I captured this image with my first ever digital camera - Canon 70D with the 70-300mm kit lens.Inspiration
I was eager to learn all I could about digital photography.Editing
I hardly did any post processing as I was still new to the photography game so I didn't know much about post production then. I had also been shooting on film cameras for most of that year and that had taught me a valuable lesson of getting the image right in camera first. In my camera bag
Over the years my gear list has developed through a range of different lenses and cameras and brands. But to date I am a Sony shooter. My go to camera is the Sony A7Riii with the 24-70f2.8 GM then I always have a 70-200 f2.8, 85 f1.8 and a 16-35f2.8 in my bag.Feedback
The only advice I can offer is dont forget to be in the moment. When I started out I was more interested in getting the shot than being present in that moment. Over the years I started to realise how much I was missing out. So don't forget to be in the moment and share the experience of the subject in your image.
