5AM on the dot and the clouds we're roaring and moving at such a pace it only took me one sec to decide to capture this beauty. There was practically no post editing done, except for color conversion and a touch of sharpness & clarity. done as I shot this for over 118 secs.

Behind The Lens

Location
This photo was taken at Brooklyn Bridge Park at Pier 1
Time
Literally 5AM EST
Lighting
No special artificial lighting, pitch dark about an 1 away from sunrise, sunrise was at ~6:15 AM EST
Equipment
Believe it or not, nothing special. My Nikon D7000, Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 constant (Non-Variable Type), Manfrotto 290 series Tripod.
Inspiration
The clouds was moving at such a rapid pace, almost streaky. I knew I had to capture the this as a long exposure and get that surreal sky with the city skyline in the background.
Editing
Minimal post processing, Nikon RAW (NEF) Color-->2-->Black and White in Lightroom with a tad of clarity 8.00 on the slider and that's it, nothing more nor less.
In my camera bag
Depends on the day, if I am out and about exploring being a nomad, I always bring my tripod (Manfrotto BeFree) and both my Nikon & Sony Camera's. My MSFT Surface Pro, bottle of water, 10-Stop ND-filter, External Hard drive (Lacie 2TB Rugged with USB3.0 and Thunderbolt) just for failover for my shots. If I travel light, then just either my Nikon and 2x lens, Tokina 16-28mm f2.8 and Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, Nikon 85mm f1.8 or my Sony along with a similar setup Sony 10-18mm f4, 24-70mm f4 /24-70mm2.8, 85mm f1.8 But if I really travel light, nothing more than my Microsoft / Nokia Lumia 1020 or Lumia 950
Feedback
The setting on my camera were 10mm/ƒ/9/84s/ISO 100, as you can see it was exposed for over 1x minute, 1 minute : 24 seconds to be exact. f-stop was set to f9 and ISO 100 at 10mm focal range, as wide as possible. When doing long exposure photographs, the first thing I suggest is to understand your environment. Understand how much light you have to work with or stop and go from there. If in a well lit environment, use a ND filter to stop light (f-stop) aka fraction of light stop.
